Story of the day: Barack Obama caps off a successful Democratic convention. (Full video of speech here.) Probably anything Obama did would come off as a footnote to Clinton, and the consensus seems to be that the speech was solid, but not spectacular.

Meanwhile, away from the limelight at the convention, Pennsylvania Democrats are working to line up behind a single candidate for the gubernatorial primary in 2014. Could Joe Sestak, the Senate candidate who came within a hair of beating Pat Toomey in the Republican wave election of 2010, be that guy? Former Gov. Ed Rendell, meanwhile, warns that Republicans may be setting a "trap" in Pennsylvania. Outside groups have pulled down ad spending in the state, where some polls show Obama up by nearly 10 points. But that, Rendell and others fret, could be a head-fake intended to set up a last-minute advertising binge that catches Dems by surprise.

Details continue to trickle out in allegations against a Pittsburgh Public Schools security guard accused of sexual abuse. KDKA reports that district administrators may have sat on a student's 2005 claims that the guard forced him to perform oral sex.
