Marketing Coordinator

Pittsburgh City Paper, Pittsburgh’s Alternative for News, Arts and Entertainment since 1991, is seeking a full-time Marketing Coordinator to assist the advertising department. This position will report to the Advertising Director.

Job Responsibilities

Advertising Department:
● Work with the Advertising Director and Creative team to keep flyers, media kit, and other sales materials up to date
● Work with data programs and vendors to provide analytics and reader statistics for sales materials as well as needed for the sales team’s presentations
● Work with the Advertising Director on utilizing trade and paid assets including booth space at events, advertising spots, tickets, giveaways, etc.
● Create campaigns to help promote City Paper to current and potential readers focused using CP products and trade advertising
● Order marketing and promotional products
● Oversee CP print subscriptions and promotion of subscriptions
● Work with Advertising Director (AD) to create campaigns to help promote City Paper to current and potential readers

Events & Partnerships:
● Coordinate every detail of Pittsburgh City Paper events and events that Pittsburgh City Paper is a media partner of
● Ensure that events are in line with Pittsburgh City Paper’s brand identity and strategy
● Being present on the day of an event to ensure that things run smoothly, including pre and post event
● Coordinate all aspects of Pittsburgh City Paper partnerships

Oversee the maintenance and growth of the Pittsburgh City Paper merchandise store:
● Work with editorial on new merchandise ideas and opportunities
● Coordinate concept and marketing plan for new products and work with the creative team on visuals
● Upload new products and write product descriptions
● Oversee all orders coming in and direct items to be mailed to the operations/creative team
● Answer questions that come in about the store including but not limited to product details, shipping, missing items, etc

Oversee the maintenance and growth of the Pittsburgh City Paper membership program:
● Devise membership campaigns for new and current members and assist with member events
● Order and keep track of inventory for membership perks
● Monthly outreach to members hitting their thresholds to start the perks process
● Work with Editorial on the members page and any necessary updates to member levels
● Coordinate the monthly member newsletter

Requirements:
● Two+ years of marketing experience (preferred)
● Organization and time management skills
● Strong written and verbal communication skills
● Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Google Suite products
● Ability to multitask, manage multiple assignments and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, team-oriented environment
● A strong team mindset

Salary: $40,000

Benefits include company sponsored health care after 90 days of employment. Vision and dental available with employee contribution. Vacation and sick days. 401K after one year of employment.

Editor-in-Chief

Pittsburgh City Paper, the city’s free alt-weekly print newspaper and daily digital source for alternative news and entertainment, is hiring a full-time Editor-in-Chief. This person will be an experienced journalist and leader who aligns with City Paper’s mission: “to serve the greater Pittsburgh region with journalistic integrity, wit, and compassion, while amplifying the voices in the communities we serve, through both our news reporting and our arts and entertainment coverage.” The ideal candidate will have experience managing a team of reporters and editors working across a variety of subjects, familiarity with both print and online products, and a history of mentoring reporters and interns.

Job Responsibilities:
● Planning long-term goals for both print and online products, working on how to best shape the reporting to fit the company’s mission
● Directing both print and online editorial content on a weekly basis to align with long-term editorial goals
● Facilitate relationship between the editorial department and the sales and operations departments
● Collaborating with the sales team to ensure they’re informed about editorial plans and to help ensure consistent branding across the board
● Advocate for editorial staff and convey their needs to ownership
● Make personnel decisions as needed, including managing the hiring process for new positions
● Oversee production of weekly print issues (including special guides) and makes final decision on content and visual layout
● Managing the budget for the editorial department, including reimbursement and the freelance budget
● Work closely with the Digital Editorial Coordinator on determining the paper’s brand and online presence via social media and email newsletters

Qualifications:
● 5 years minimum experience in editorial leadership, specifically managing a team of writers and editors
● Proven record of exceptional writing and editing ability
● Working tech knowledge of Google Suite, Slack, CMS (content management systems), and social media
● Must display the organizational skills necessary to run a weekly publication, including setting realistic deadlines and prioritizing stories
● An understanding of City Paper’s mission, perspective, and distinct voice as an alt-weekly
● Ability to build relationships with City Paper’s other departments, owners, and the local community
● Comfort working with a small staff in a collaborative manner that helps to facilitate an open and generative work environment

Marketing Intern (Winter Session)

The Marketing Intern will report to the Advertising Director and will last from January 9-March 31. The role will provide experience in marketing and advertising in the events and media industry.

Responsibilities will include:
● Planning and assisting at Pittsburgh City Paper planned events
● Assisting in coordination and administrative needs for events
● Collecting and organizing marketing data for sales representatives

Requirements:
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills
● Knowledge of MS Office and/or Google Suite Office
● Passion for the marketing industry and desire for real-time experience

ADVERTISING SALES REPRESENTATIVE

This role requires a sales and marketing-minded individual who desires an exciting opportunity to earn uncapped commissions and focus on connecting the local Pittsburgh business owners and organizations with marketing strategies including print, digital, events, sponsorships and social media advertising. This person desires to work with a supportive team base and the passion to build the brand within the community.

This position includes a current client base to manage, foster and grow while also focusing on acquisition of new clients to hit monthly goals set forth by the company.

This position needs an individual with in-depth knowledge and understanding of the local market and understands the competitive landscapes that many SMBs face today. The ideal candidate is motivated and focused on revenue growth across all platforms with the intention of meeting and exceeding revenue goals.

Responsibilities:
● Business-to-Business (B2B) advertising sales
● Monitor, analyze, and proactively create solutions to retain and grow revenue
● Prospecting, appointment setting, and virtual/in person presentations (currently limiting in person appointments due to COVID-19 guidelines)
● Develop creative marketing plans across print, sponsorships and digital that engage client's target audience
● Build prospect lists and canvass the market to find new business opportunities
● Coordinating sales efforts with marketing programs
● Actively collaborate with manager to create dynamic plans and goals
● Answering client questions about credit terms, products, prices and availability
● Maintaining client records, processing contracts and payment setup

Requirements:
● Prior sales experience & proven results working for a media company (Preferred)

FREELANCE WRITERS

Pittsburgh City Paper is currently seeking freelance journalists for its news and a&e sections. Our current rates are: $75 for a one-subject story at 500-700 words; $100 for a one-two subject story at 800-900 words; and, $200 for an enterprise story (up to 1,500 words.)

Reporters specifically interested in covering breaking news and live press events, and/or reporters available to be on call for last-minute assignments are encouraged to respond.
