[BROADWAY/R&B] + SUN., AUG. 27

Hometown hero Billy Porter, star of Kinky Boots on Broadway, will return to his Pittsburgh roots with a free show tonight at Hartwood Acres as part of Allegheny County’s Summer Concert Series. Porter’s love of musicals extends to his solo work. His latest album, The Soul of Richard Rodgers, honors the Broadway songwriting legend by infusing classics like “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning” and “The Lady Is a Tramp” with R&B beats, while also conveying a post-inauguration sense of resistance. For example, his version of The Sound of Music classic “Edelweiss” includes a contemporary interlude about flourishing despite the dark times.
