XXX: STATE OF THE UNION

In this sort-of sequel to 2002's XXX, a National Security Agency "expert," Agent XXX (Ice Cube), is sprung from the Big House to help dismantle a domestic revolution secretly led by the Defense Secretary (Willem Dafoe). It's pure Beltway mayhem: NSA vs. DoD, and no nearby vehicle, house or Capitol rotunda is safe from exploding. Lee Tamahori directs like a man possessed, with barely time for a quip. Even though it appears a squad of monkeys juiced up on Grand Theft Auto wrote this throwaway schlock, more thoughtful adults may be mildly entertained by the extraordinary level of national anxiety this film riffs on -- a Defense Department-led coup, an imperiled peacenik President, our national security restored by a rogue unit of heavily armed extras from Pimp My Ride ... Believe it. With XXX on the job, there's no YYY.
