Woodstock meets West View for Walkman's South by South West View event
All you can drink beer! Now that I’ve got your attention, Sat., July 27, Pittsburgh rapper Walkman is holding an event titled South by South West View. Branded as “Woodstock meets West View,” for $20, attendees can enjoy games, giveaways, performances from six local acts (Walkman, William Weyes, Back Alley Sound, Big Blitz, Louie Castle and the Rooks, and Mori Hill), and seriously, all you can drink beer.
“A lot of people might think West View is an unusual choice for an event like this,” says Walkman. “And yeah ... it probably would have been easier to do something at one of the regular Pittsburgh venues. But, I really wanted to bring something fun to my hometown. I'd love to see it keep growing every year and maybe bring some extra revenue to some of the local businesses. But at the end of the day, I just love hyping up the place I know best.”
A West View native, Walkman is no stranger to repping his north of downtown borough. His debut album, released July 2017, borrowed the areas zip code as its title. Like Walkman’s name, 15229 evokes '90s nostalgia, with old school beats under Walkman’s melodic flow, making many references to his upbringing in West View.
South by South West View is a 21-and-over event and runs from 6-11 p.m.
