Earlier this year, White Wives took the punk world by storm, releasing their debut full-length on big punk indie Adeline Records. The band -- headed up by Roger Harvey of Dandelion Snow and Chris #2 from Anti-Flag -- has been on tour since, basically anytime the members' other projects permits. Josh White Jr. started early as a performer: While he's only 71, he lays claim to 66 years of playing music in public. That can happen when your father is a famous musician himself. (Josh White Sr. was a legend of blues and gospel in the mid-20th century, and was close friends with Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, who were the younger White's godparents.) Josh White Jr. combines music, storytelling and education into his work as a performer; tonight, he owns the stage at Club Café. Asheville pop-folk trio Now You See Them has Pittsburgh roots; the three members all grew up in the Western Pennsylvania area, but now live in Asheville, N.C. As it often happens around this time of year, they're returning home, so the band is having a local show: Tonight at Thunderbird Café, Now You See Them headlines a show with local friends The Armadillos. It's become a holiday tradition. A weird, awesome holiday tradition. Every December, local show promoter Manny Theiner presents a Festivus show: an event celebrating the made-up winter holiday from Seinfeld. While it started at Quiet Storm years ago, the yearly staple takes place at Howlers these days; in addition to music from Johnstown faves Endless Mike & the Beagle Club, New York solo artist Talia Segal, Emily Rodgers Duo and I.A.M., there'll be a Festivus pole, Seinfeld trivia and all manner of fun.
