Local bar-industry fixtures Tim Russell and Lucky “The Painproof Man” Munro join forces on Sun., Sept. 24, to raise funds for hurricane relief efforts in the U. S. Virgin Islands. Russell, the owner and distiller at Maggie’s Farm Rum, and Munro, who runs a tiki pop-up series called Cane & Grog, both feel that the Caribbean and its people have had profound effects on their lives and their careers.

In a press release, Russell writes, “A lot of people have been affected by Hurricane Irma, in the United States and elsewhere, but people tend to forget these are Americans, too. ... The Virgin Islands are also a special place to me, as well. I've visited about a half dozen times over the last 10 or so years, and no matter where I go in the Caribbean, no place ever seems as special.... The lifestyle there has had a profound effect on me and inspires me to do what I do now, not to mention the island's history of rum production and what that's meant for the cocktail world, much of what has shaped Lucky's life, as well.”

The fundraiser will be held at Maggie’s Farm Distillery and will include a special tiki menu presented by Munro as a part of his Cane & Grog series. Black Sheep Barbecue will be serving up Caribbean-style barbecue with food donated by Black Sheep and Penn Macaroni Company.

Hundred percent of the profits from the evening will go directly to the hurricane-relief effort, some of them to a relief charity set up by Tim Duncan, a retired NBA player from St. Croix, who has pledged to match any donations up to a million dollars. Can’t make it out on Sunday? No worries, one dollar for every drink purchased from Maggie’s Farm this week will be donated as well.
