Sand Presso Coffee and Sandwich Bar

A new venue promises a Korean twist on breakfast and lunch

After eating the best egg salad I've ever eaten in my life at Sand Presso Coffee and Sandwich Bar, David Kim is mum on exactly what makes it so tasty.

"That's our magic sauce," he says with a smile. Likewise, he's little help on why my vanilla latte seems deliciously better. The co-owner of the new eatery in the Strip (just steps from Downtown) isn't telling; he just keeps smiling.

Sand Presso has only been open since last month, but a steady stream of customers stop in for coffee. The shop is open for breakfast and lunch, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays 7 a.m.-1 p.m.

Kim opened Sand Presso with attorney Mark Goldstein; it's a Korean chain with 50 locations in that country, but this is the first Sand Presso in the United States.

"We're doing something different here," says Kim. "We're doing sandwiches and coffee with a Korean twist. You'll be able to taste the Asian flavors."

The egg salad is sold for breakfast, but there are regular and special lunch sandwiches every day. For lunch, I tried the bulgogi sandwich: marinated Korean barbecue beef and cooked onions on a hard roll. The beef was rich and flavorful, almost melting in my mouth.

I asked Kim what the secret was, but I should have known better. He just crossed his arms and smiled.
