Comments/Privacy Policy

City Paper allows readers to post comments to almost all our online content. But that doesn't give you the right to act like a jerk.

We will not delete comments based on their political or ideological viewpoint. We may, however, delete comments that are off-topic, use excessive foul language, or employ slurs based on race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation. We may also delete comments that make personal attacks on story subjects -- especially if those attacks are threatening, unrelated to the content of the piece or are unsupported by factual evidence. If you want to use the internet to settle personal scores, you might want to try starting your own blog.

The fact that a comment remains on the site does not imply the endorsement of City Paper. City Paper makes no representation as to the accuracy of any assertions made in the comments section. Under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act of 1996, City Paper assumes no liability for any statements made by third parties in the comments sections of its Web site.

City Paper respects your online privacy. We may require name, e-mail/home address, and other identifying information if you wish to participate in contests, surveys and other online activities. We will also require some identifying information if you wish to post comments or other content online here. You may opt out of providing such information by choosing not to take part in online discussions, surveys or other activities.

We may use personal information for marketing and promotional purposes, but we will not intentionally disclose such marketing information to a third party without your prior approval. City Paper does, however, reserve the right to release specific information in certain, non-commercial cases, such as when required to do so by a subpoena, court order or other valid legal process.

City Paper tracks online traffic to gauge reader interest in online material, but this information is reported as aggregate data. Your specific viewing habits will not be tracked or shared with anyone.

City Paper may use the identifying information you provide to send out electronic newsletters, or to notify you of special editions or other events. You can opt out of receiving newsletters by changing your online user profile, or by following the "unsubscribe" options included in each e-mailed newsletter.

No data transmission by Internet or wireless network is 100 percent secure: Information you send may be viewed in transit by a third party. City Paper assumes no responsibility for such unauthorized viewing by third parties. We do our best to protect any information we receive from you, but we cannot guarantee this information will be kept safe from hackers or other intruders.
