More local rideshare drivers have been cited by the Public Utilities Commission. Our Dan Sleva has the info:
The PUC Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement filed 10 citations against Lyft and Uber drivers on Monday. Three citations for the summary offense of unauthorized operation by carriers and brokers were filed in Oakdale at District Justice Anthony Saveikis’ office while 7 more were filed at the South Side office of Gene Ricciardi.
The citations filed in Oakdale were for trips from the airport to two hotels near Robinson Township.
These new citations are in addition to 23 that were previously filed at Riccardi’s office on April 22. Those drivers will appear in front of Ricciardi in September.
Sting operations were conducted by an undercover PUC enforcement agent who used the ride-sharing apps to hail rides
Both Lyft and Uber were ordered to cease and desist operations on July 1 by a panel of two Public Utilities Commission administrative law justices. Both companies have continued to operate.
Spokespersons for Lyft and Uber have said they will cover all citation costs. Drivers, however, may face stiffer penalties than the citation’s fine of between $25 and $300 set by the magistrate. The PUC has called for the revocation of vehicle registration for the operation of a vehicle without a certificate of public convenience.
Both Lyft and Uber have submitted applications to to the PUC.
