This morning Western PA leaders held a rally to support Mayor Ed Gainey as election day draws closer. Rep. Summer Lee, County Executive Sara Innamorato, and Rep. La’Tasha Mayes showed their support for Gainey by standing with him at Freedom Corner in the Hill District. Rep. Mayes took to the microphone to express Gainey’s love for the city and people of Pittsburgh stating, “He is a leader, he is a visionary and he is a fighter for the steel city and not just those who sit at the top of these buildings and make decisions for those of us who are working for community, he is making decisions for the 90 neighborhoods and uniting them as one steel city.” Mayor Gainey also received support from OnePA, a grassroots movement for racial, economic, and social justice in Pennsylvania. Mayor Gainey closed out the rally by saying, “This is our moment, we are building unprecedented unity, unprecedented solidarity and it requires courage to stand up…I am a mayor that will always fight for everybody in this city, not because I speak it, because I walk it. No matter what happens in Washington. Right here in our city, we will always be united, fearless and focused. This is our moment, this is our city, this is our future.”
