Ed Burns, Donal Logue, John Leguizamo, Matthew Lillard and Jay Mohr drink and squabble on the eve of a wedding in a charming Long Island town. Writer-director Burns’ dramedy is another iteration on the theme of man-boys forced to grow up, though the majority of this thirtysomething, comfortably middle-class gang are so myopic and feckless that it’s hard to drum up much interest in their boo-hooing; one outrage involves a baseball card, for pete’s sake. This boozy, artificially Irish, playing-at-working-class milieu is familiar turf for Burns (The Brothers McMullen, She’s the One), and while he may write from those tree-lined streets, having great emotional shifts marked by shouting “fuck you” and shoving matches doesn’t make for fresh or compelling drama.
