In 1990, an entire generation fell in love with a 10-year-old little boy thwarting two bungling burglars. After being accidentally left home alone while his family took a Christmas vacation to Paris, Kevin McCallister, played by the precocious Macaulay Culkin, learns about the importance of family, the holiday spirit, and keeping a low profile when you are a child flying solo for the week.
In addition to skyrocketing young Culkin’s career, the John Hughes film Home Alone quickly became a box office success and holiday family movie night mainstay.
On Wed., Dec. 11, the former child star gets merry with A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin at the Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center on Pitt-Johnstown’s campus in Johnstown, Pa. Presented by Standing Ovations Live, Drusky Entertainment, and SLP Concerts, the event includes a screening of Home Alone, followed by a moderated interview and audience Q&A with the man, the myth, and the reason why you don’t trust bees — Macaulay Culkin.
Expect behind-the-scenes tales directly from Culkin as he shares his favorite stories about filming with screen legends like Joe Pesci and the late John Candy and reflects on why his breakout film has resonated with generations of fans.
The Johnstown stop is part of a 14-city tour in the weeks before Christmas. For those looking for an extra-special experience, a limited number of VIP tickets will be available, including a personal post-show photo opportunity with Culkin.
Christmas appears inextricably tied to Culkin’s legacy — when the actor received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2023 (during the on-the-nose date of Dec. 1), his Home Alone mom, actor Catherine O’Hara, joined the festivities.
“Macaulay Culkin has been a staple in pop culture for decades,” stated Hollywood Walk of Fame producer, Ana Martinez, in a press release. “He has an extensive trajectory of work but his movie, Home Alone is one of the most beloved holiday movies known the world over. How fitting that Catherine O’Hara who played Macaulay’s mother in the film is reuniting with her movie son and will be speaking at the ceremony!”

Besides Home Alone and the equally festive sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (now most famous for the clip where Kevin meets then-not-president Donald Trump), Culkin appeared in other hit films like Uncle Buck, My Girl, and The Good Son. Most recently, Culkin starred in a season of the Ryan Murphy TV anthology series American Horror Story: Double Feature and appeared on the HBO series The Righteous Gemstones.
Throughout the 1990s, the young actor contributed much to our entertainment milestones. Remember the rebellious kid at the beginning of Michael Jackson’s “Black or White” music video? And if not for Macaulay, would we be treated to the smarmy antics of his brother Keiran, who also appeared in Home Alone, in HBO’s Succession?
Home Alone was a major part of Culkin’s childhood, so his tales must be endless. Whether you were in the theater in 1990 to witness the hilarity of a kid outsmarting grown men or discovered the film so much later that you have no idea what a Micro Machine is, this experience is great for fans of all ages.
