Pittsburgh Vegan Restaurant Week

The first Pittsburgh Vegan Restaurant Week takes diners on a plant-based journey through the region’s food scene. The inaugural event from Humane Action Pennsylvania highlights Pittsburgh’s vegan food scene to promote “compassionate, sustainable cuisine.” The featured “gourmet entrées,” comfort food, and desserts include a vegan pabellon bowl at Downtown’s Arepittas, a three-course special with mushroom étouffée at EYV Restaurant, discounts on vegan options at Mi Empanada, and a vegan cheese plate or black bean burger with avocado fries at Cafe Chocolade in Oakdale. Other participants include Con Alma, Alihan’s Mediterranean Cuisine, Shady Grove, and more.

Pittsburgh Farmers Markets 2025

The Pittsburgh farmers market season has returned with a new beer garden, live music, and more.

The CitiParks Farmers Markets offer seasonal produce, meat, baked goods, plants, and more, along with hot prepared foods and artisanal goods. The Squirrel Hill market happens every Sunday, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., through Dec. 21; the North Side every Friday, from 3-7 p.m., beginning May 16; Larimer (East End) every Monday, from 3-7 p.m., beginning June 2; and Carrick every Wednesday, from 3-7 p.m., beginning June 4.

A Beer Garden with live music will come to the North Side Market on the last Friday of every month, along with special programs and themed weeks at all markets beginning in June. View the full schedule and location information.

The CitiParks farmers markets accept cash, credit, and SNAP benefits. SNAP shoppers will receive extra money through Just Harvest and the City’s Food Justice Fund.

The Downtown Farmers Market, hosted through the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, moves to PPG Place Plaza this season. The weekly Farmers Market, held in Market Square for the past two decades, will reopen Thu., May 15, running every Thursday, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m, through Sept. 25. Held rain or shine, the Farmers Market features regionally grown produce, organic products, small-batch foods, and home goods.

Taste Pittsburgh’s finest homemade beers at a TRASH homebrew showdown. Three Rivers Alliance of Serious Homebrewers (TRASH), considered one of America’s oldest continuously operating homebrew clubs, comes to Hazel Grove Brewing for a Steel City Showcase Homebrew Competition. On Sat., May 17 from 1-5 p.m., TRASH judges and professional brewers will determine which homebrews come out on top. Attendees will also crown a People’s Choice Award winner. Hazel Grove will also offer its regular taps, and the Community Kitchen food truck will be on-site. Tickets cost $25 and can be purchased through Eventbrite. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Industrial Arts Workshop.

Fairmont Pittsburgh celebrates National Paloma Day with a hands-on cocktail class. On Thu., May 22, from 6-8 p.m., Fairmont’s mixologist will teach attendees how to craft two Paloma-inspired cocktails: The Palomarita, a “citrusy blend” of a margarita and a Paloma, and the Mexican 1821, a twist on the French 75. Tickets cost $70 and can be reserved through Eventbrite.

Butterjoint x Cinderlands Beer Co.

Butterjoint partners with Cinderlands for a Pittsburgh-centric collaborative beer dinner. On Thu., May 22 at 6:30 p.m., Butterjoint serves a five-course menu “featuring twists on Pittsburgh classics” made from local ingredients and paired with Cinderlands beers. Tickets cost $120 (plus a 20% service charge) and can be purchased online.

Cork Harbour Pub

Trade garbage for Guinness on Sat., May 24, when Cork Harbour Pub hosts a Lawrenceville community clean-up with free food and beer. Volunteers will meet at Cork Harbour at 11 a.m. and pick up litter in an assigned area. After the clean-up concludes at 1 p.m., volunteers receive complimentary pizza and pints at the pub. No registration is required; the event is free.

HK Dim Sum

North Oakland officially welcomed HK Dim Sum (aka Hong Kong Dim Sum)  on May 8 with a grand opening celebration. The blog Pennsylvasia reports that the Chinese restaurant soft-opened in the One On Centre complex in April, after initially being announced in September 2023. The menu features dim sum, noodles, dumplings, milk and fruit teas, and desserts for dine-in and take-out. HK Dim Sum is now open daily at 11 a.m.

The Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar Pittsburgh location celebrated its grand opening in The Waterfront on May 6. The milkshake bar and ice cream shop, first announced last September, bills itself as a place where “calories don’t count,” offering “picture-worthy treats” piled high with candy and toppings. The Pittsburgh menu includes “crazy” Masons (colorful milkshakes served in a Mason jar), crazy waffles (three-scoop ice cream sundaes on a sugar waffle), ice cream sandwich “bombs,” pies, and cakes. The Crazy Mason is now open Mon.-Thu. from 12-8 p.m., and Sat.-Sun. from 12-10 p.m. Follow their Pittsburgh Facebook page for updates.
