When: Thu., Feb. 15, 8 p.m. and Sun., Feb. 18, 7 p.m. 2018
You’ve likely heard that Pittsburgh was an influential city for the development of jazz, but what were the social and historical conditions that allowed that scene to flourish? Here’s your chance to get educated: Tonight, WQED is re-broadcasting the hour-long documentary, We Knew What We Had: The Greatest Jazz Story Never Told, produced by the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild. Jeff Sewald’s film features interviews, archival material and more than 20 live performance clips from Pittsburgher performers, including Billy Strayhorn, Mary Lou Williams, Art Blakey, George Benson, Stanley Turrentine and Ahmad Jamal. -Al Hoff
