How could you not be happy when "That's Amore" by Dean Martin came blasting over the PNC Park speakers? For the last five seasons in Pittsburgh, that was
Francisco Cervelli's walk-up song before every at-bat.
But after just 34 games this season and following yet another concussion, fan favorite Cervelli was released by the Pittsburgh Pirates before quickly being signed by the Atlanta Braves.
Pittsburgh, having the small town feel that it does, gets easily attached to those athletes who make an impact on its fans and community. Cervelli was one of those players, through and through, and really thrived here both personally and professionally.
Always a friendly face who brought a veteran presence to a fairly young team, I had nothing but kind interactions with Francisco, who certainly led a beautiful life in the 'Burgh.
