Tschabalala Self

The Carnegie Mellon University School of Art will host painter Tschabalala Self for a lecture. The Connecticut-based artist describes her current body of work as “concerned with the iconographic significance of the Black female body in contemporary culture,” using vinyl and acrylic paint, fabric, and other materials to create a “cultural vacuum in which these bodies can exist for their own pleasure and self-realization.” Her work has been exhibited at museums throughout the country. The event will take place in the Kresge Theatre.
