Today, Bruster’s Real Ice Cream turns 30.
On July 13, 1989, Bruce Reed opened the first Bruster’s in Bridgewater, Pa., just outside of Pittsburgh. It wasn’t long before Reed’s single ice cream shop took off and expanded across the nation.
In 30 years, Bruster’s has created 150 flavors of ice cream, yogurt, sorbet, and Italian ice. Each flavor made the old-fashioned way with a slow-kettle process. On any given day, 24 freshly made flavors are featured in each shop. This, as Bruster’s says, makes “Bruster’s a Scoop Above the Rest.”
Bruster’s is still headquartered in Bridgewater with its first location less than a mile away. Head over to the flagship store this weekend and see where the legacy began.
