The CIO & the Union Come to Aliquippa

This half-hour documentary, part of the PBS "Great Depression" series, tells the dramatic story of the struggle at J&L which led to the Supreme Court decision to uphold the constitutionality of the Wagner Act. The win at Aliquippa extended the union beyond U.S. Steel, which surrendered in secret negotiations between John L. Lewis and Myron Taylor. But the Memorial Day Massacre of 1937, just weeks later, kept the union inside "Little Steel" without a contract until 1941. Howard Scott and Joela Sabadasz, members of the Battle of Homestead Foundation, will lead a discussion about the 1937 CIO union drives.
