The Bounty Hunter

Run and hide from this tedious rom-com

Back in the late 1960s, Cosmopolitan editor Helen Gurley Brown penned a cookbook for young women: recipes calculated to ensnare that desired man. Unless, of course, that dude was a dud -- and then, one flipped to the last chapter: "Goodbye Forever, Thank God! Three Dinners and One Revolting Breakfast." Yucky food guaranteed to shift him out of your life! Similarly, I can think of no better way to end a relationship than by forcing one's soon-to-be-ex to sit through Andy Tennant's most insufferable rom-com yet. The idiotic premise finds a bounty-hunter (Gerard Butler) chasing his ex-wife, a high-heeled news reporter (Jennifer Anniston) who jumped bail to pursue a garbled crime story. This unlikable, sniping couple ("you're a bad driver," "I am not") stomp and pout all over scenic New Jersey. When the two aren't wrecking vehicles or falling into ponds, there are deadly stretches of do-we-or-don't-we relationship rehab. This film is never about love, marriage or real people -- it's one long contrived situation that will drain every ounce of spark from your heart and that of your date. Mission accomplished.
