The Absolute Brightness of Leonard Pelkey

The Pittsburgh-premiere production of James Lecesne’s 2015 play The Absolute Brightness of Leonard Pelkey gets its first performance tonight at City Theatre’s Lester Hamburg Studio. The story follows a gay teenager’s disappearance, the small-town detective who tries to find him, and the colorful community that helps him along the way. Keith Randolph Smith (pictured) stars as Chuck DeSantis, the detective recounting the mysterious case. City Theatre collaborated on the show with Dreams of Hope, recruiting LGBTQA youth to learn behind-the-scenes skills, and the production’s design team is all-female and transgender.
