Pigeon, a play by Jeremy Lesifko-Bremer, takes the characters of Chekhov’s tragi-comedy The Seagull to the contemporary big city (LGBT representation! Gentrification jokes! And hipsters!) to negotiate the highs and lows of love and art. The events of the play occur between the third and fourth acts of Chekhov’s original drama (hence the III ½ of the title). During these two years – which are hinted at but never seen – the Seagull herself, Nina, flies off to the city to become an actor with the pretentious writer Trigorin, a bird caught in the breeze of ambition.
