Off Minor Jazz Series:John Coltrane's The Avant-Garde

Uploaded by Khalil Zeigler
This Off Minor Jazz program honors the music of John Coltrane’s legendary album The Avant-Garde. The Off Minor Jazz Series highlights the music of legendary jazz composers and players. The series has been curated by drummer Thomas Wendt, who puts together specialized musicians for each concert. In the summer of 1960, John Coltrane recorded one of the most unique albums in his large discography: The Avant-Garde. This album features Coltrane with a chord-less quartet that included 3/4’s of Ornette Coleman’s classic 60’s quartet; bassist Charlie Haden and drummer, Ed Blackwell. The results were historic.
