I think you hit the nail on the head when you said that the art needed the viewer. I also think that this is the point of the exhibition. The artist's self is missing. What fills the remaining intangible space is the viewer's self.

I would ask you to be less harsh in your future critiques...And also for a spoiler alert, if you're unable to write without giving away a really cool surprise, like in the Finnish piece.
