MOUCHETTE | Film | Pittsburgh | Pittsburgh City Paper
Gorgeously filmed in luminous black and white, Robert Bresson's 1967 lyrical, austere drama depicts a few days in the life of a young French girl who lives in poverty in a rural village. Mouchette (Nadine Nortier) endures indignities both tiny and gravely shattering, eventually finding solace in a decisive act that while deeply pathetic and pitiful, nonetheless feels strangely liberating. Time magazine listed Mouchette among its 100 All-Time Best Films, and it is widely considered to be Bresson's masterpiece. To be screened in a new print. In French, with subtitles. 7 and 9 p.m. Fri., March 10, through Sun., March 12. Melwood (AH)
