Cuban American writer Meg Medina is an award-winning author who writes picture books, middle grade and YA fiction about strong girls, tough circumstances, and the connecting power of culture. Merci Suárez Changes Gears is about a sixth grader in the midst of change and confusion as a new scholarship student at a fancy private school. Meg’s work examines how cultures intersect through the eyes of young people, and she brings audiences stories that speak to what is unique in Latino culture and to the qualities that are universal. Her favorite protagonists are strong girls.
