Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Writing Awards

As part of Carnegie Mellon University’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration, high school and college students from across western Pennsylvania will read their winning entries. Jim Daniels, the Thomas Stockham Baker University Professor of English, created the awards program in 1999 to provide a safe space for students to talk honestly about their shared experiences with discrimination. The awards ceremony is sponsored by CMU’s Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of English, Division of Student Affairs and the Office of the President.
