Re: “In Service

On the contrary, I found In Service to be a rare opportunity to hear stories about the war from the soldiers' POV, WITHOUT needing to see the surrounding political context. This is not a show that intends to dissect the rationale of war, or draw political lines for us so that we may judge the participants. (Lord knows we'll do that anyway, because it's impossible not to enter this show without recalling one's own political pretexts.) Instead, I find it courageous that the creators (and the soldiers themselves) would talk about the actions of war so frankly, without attempting to use political crutches or platform their individuality into a sweeping generalization about the validity of war itself. Celebrate works for what they create, yes, but let's not deride them for failing to provide an aspect that was never their intent, but only the personal desire of the person viewing.
