When: Thu., Oct. 27, 6:30-9:30 p.m. 2016
This new award-winning documentary film by Donna C. Roberts (a Pittsburgh filmmaker) and Donna Read is about the fascinating Candomblé spiritual culture in Bahia, Brazil, a vibrant African-derived tradition which evolved from the ways of enslaved Africans in the New World’s largest slave port. Extraordinary elder women leaders tell stories of Candomblé’s history, social challenges and triumphs, grounded in strong community, and Earth-based wisdom and practice. Just Films is a collaboration of four organizations committed to women, girls, gender equity, and social justice: the Chatham University Women’s Institute, New Voices Pittsburgh, the Women and Girls Foundation, and the Women’sLaw Project.
