Re: “When I was growing up in Pittsburgh, I remember seeing quite a few bus lines serving different parts of the city and county. Why were all these small companies, which were apparently self-supporting, replaced by the government-subsidized Port Authority?

I was born and raised in the South Hills. I rode the streetcars, the Brentwood Motor coaches and the Shaffer lines, and I did get a short taste of PAT. I was in high school and did not have a driver license so I did not have much to compare. Over time, I suppose bureacracy encroaches. How easy is it for something to go so very wrong! I found this site today. I was looking for some information about the Brentwood Motor Coach accident at Kaufmanns in 1960 or 1961. I know there was a fatality, but I can not find any information. Can anyone enlighten me?
