Growing up in Boise, John Németh listened mostly to '90s hip hop and rock. But all that changed when a friend gave Németh a mixtape of blues greatest hits — Buddy Guy and Junior Wells’ classic “Hoodoo Man Blues” caught his attention. Fast forward 20 years and Németh, now a blues and soul artist, has received several nominations for a Blues Music Award including as B.B. King Entertainer of the Year. It’s a good thing Németh received that mixtape, because his deep, rust-edged voiced sounds as though it was meant to sing over a jumping rhythm section, bass, drums, and guitar.
