Thank you for this well-written piece. Please considering looking into how the bureaucracy of colleges have grown and how higher education has been taken over by a consumer culture. For example, today when I was trying to meet with students in our Union --because I have no office as an adjunct-- we found a rollerskating/ice cream social that started playing disco dance hits at 10:50am--on a Wednesday. I want students to have a nice time during homecoming week, but I was shocked at what I saw. The students I was meeting with had just read Mark Edmundson's "On the Uses of a Liberal Education: As Lite Entertainment for Bored College Students" --the timing couldn't have been more perfect.
