The time: 1905. The place: New York City. Esther is a black seamstress living in a boarding house and making her way by sewing intimate apparel for wealthy white patrons and poor prostitutes alike. Her skills are in high demand, but her plans for the future are challenged by love and society. Can Esther refashion her dreams and make them anew from the whole cloth of her life's experiences?
