Re: “Wysocki: Pittsburgh should give an NBA franchise a chance

Pittsburgh would never support an NBA team. Were it not for Lemieux and Crosby, this town would've already let the Penguins relocate, and it will be interesting to see how well Pittsburgh supports hockey when the day comes that the team doesn't have a Wunderkind #1 draft pick as its poster boy. As for basketball, the town already has a college hoops team that plays in a premiere NCAA conference. That's all a town this size really needs. If the NBA put a franchise here, all it would ever be is a small-market model for mediocrity like the Cleveland Cavaliers have been. Like it or not, Pittsburgh is all about the Steelers now, and every other sport has to fight for the scraps that NFL football lets fall from its table.

Re: “Pittsburgh’s starting nine: Mike Wysocki on the greatest Pittsburgh-born baseball stars

I have a hard time taking any list of Pittsburgh baseball players that doesn't have Honus Wagner at #1 that seriously. I think the man is not appreciated nearly enough simply because none of us were alive to see him play. A lot of the "stars" of the modern game would have been average players at best during the dead ball era.

Re: “Wysocki on what you can do to secure hockey’s future

Pittsburgh is Canada South, but not just because of hockey. Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in this region, and in 50 years it's pretty likely that we'll be watching even more homegrown talent in the MLL and NLL professional lacrosse leagues, which will eventually surpass both football and hockey in popularity as the tens of thousands of young boys and girls who are playing the sport now reach adulthood and want to watch the sport they played in their youth.
