Re: “Legal Smokescreen

There are too many laws as it is. Why must everything that a group of people wish would happen need to be spelled out in a law? It would be more in line with the attitude of freedom in this country if the politicians would say something to the effect of: “On the matter of smoking in privately-owned business establishments, the county of Allegheny is in support of all freedoms that go along with that ownership, namely, the right to allow all legal activities to take place within their domains. It is the position of this county government to recommend to all its citizens to abstain from the habit, in light of the proven unhealthy consequences it brings. America was founded upon the freedom decide for oneself what one indulges in, and because ownership of business is a primary engine of the economy, and furthermore, the owners of said businesses are free to decide what legal activities take place in their domain, this government body will not legislate or encroach upon that freedom. Ongoing public education of the deleterious effects of the smoking habit will, hopefully, drive the market-place to take it’s own direction toward more and more establishments deciding to become smoke-free.”
