My take on this is that many Pittsburghers are "we'll believe it when we see it" types. This causes a problem, because the campaigns that most of the more progressive candidates run are just the opposite--they want people to believe without having much tangible proof that they can deliver. What the city needs is someone to start making things happen before they run for office. Unfortunately, it takes time to build that kind of track record. But what the people of Pittsburgh need is someone that they can sink their teeth into (in a good way!). Until then, it will continue to be the status quo.

This is the kind of thing that makes me happy about Pittsburgh...communities coming together to make positive change. If they got the word out about donations, my guess is that they'd get a flood of books and computers.
