Dr. Raizen will explore the story of Aliyah Bet, the clandestine immigration endeavor that brought Jewish refugees from Europe to Palestine in the 1930s and 1940s. Dr. Raizen will discuss two strong female leaders, Ada Sereni and Ruth Klüger-Aliav, who exemplified the movement and how they and others helped establish the foundation of modern-day Israel. Tickets for the lecture are $10, and free for students (with valid ID) and Holocaust survivors. Earlier in the day, Dr. Raizen will be conducting a teacher training, for which Act 48 credit is available; learn more about the lecture and training at http://hcofpgh.org/esther-raizen/
