It is very obvious that many people have already made up their minds. You and many others are against the ability of the police to leave the city and none of you have considered the reasoning. On the one side the police have said that they are put under pressure to live in a neighborhood that they patrol and that is an excellent point, the concern over public schooling while also correct is very sad. Many people send their kids to private schools so they can avoid the deteriorating school systems in this city.
The idea that the police cannot connect with the community they serve without living in it is borderline. If the police did not patrol this city more than 40 hours a week (many do moonlighting) then this could make sense, but how many of us would want to live at our job?
If your boss told you you had live at work or lose your job, would you be happy with it? No, most people would feel like they were being mistreated, yet we ask city employees to stay at work all of the time. It could help the police to refresh themselves by having the opportunity to step away from work at the end of the day.
