Pittsburgh artist D.S. Kinsel leaves messages in unexpected places: “Young Gifted and Black” is hung on a telephone pole; “Black on Black Magic,” attached to a fence. Kinsel’s provocative, and often colorful, hand-scrawled signs largely address the daily lives of Black folks in Pittsburgh. Earlier this year, he released Totems, Shrines, & Sacraments, a book of his street sculptures and installations. Now, he brings an exhibit of the same name to the IAMB Gallery at City Books, with an opening reception for those seeking creative local art and free refreshments.
