[HIP HOP] + FRI., JUNE 17
Don't tell the folks from Time Bomb and Shadow Lounge that it's technically not summer for another four days. Tonight they've got a sweet lineup of DJs for their Summer Kickoff Party: Tony Touch, the prolific DJ and MC from Brooklyn; Jasmine Solano, the up-and-coming DJ and rapper who's toured as Wiz Khalifa's DJ; and local Hank D. Detroit's Houseshoes and local DJ Vex spin next door at AVA. Andy Mulkerin 10 p.m. 5972 Baum Blvd., East Liberty. $10. 18 and over. 412-363-8277 or www.shadowlounge.net
[DOOM METAL] + SAT., JUNE 18
The guys in Earth, playing Saturday at the Braddock Carnegie Library Theater Hall, took Black Sabbath's original name for themselves and have spent much of the past 22 years crafting heavy, meditative, mostly instrumental music. Though considered pioneers of drone doom, their more recent catalogue -- including this year's Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light -- evokes Melvins and Ennio Morricone in equal measure. Consider it a bit of psychic foresight that Ozzy and Co. left the name for a more suitable band: Earth -- in scope, sound and influence -- is massive. With O Paon, The Body & The Assembly of Light Orchestra, Onodrim. Margaret Welsh 7 p.m. 419 Library St., Braddock. $10. All ages. 732-618-2243 or [email protected]
[GARAGE ROCK] + SAT., JUNE 18
Expect lots of screaming guitars and probably some screaming people tonight at Gooski's when Olympia's early-Dino Jr.-worshipping Milk Music plays. The fuzz-rock band has one hard-to-find record to its name, but despite that (or, more likely, because of it), has been buzzing in the garage-rock underground. Also appearing: the naughtily named Ohio psyche heroes Puffy Areolas, Brain Killer and locals Slices. AM 10 p.m. 3117 Brereton St., Polish Hill. $5. 412-681-1658
[INDIE ROCK] + SUN., JUNE 19
Boston's Mount Peru played to a sold-out crowd last January at a local band's CD-release show, but it's hard in that kind of environment to really let the band's easy, dreamy tunes sink in. Tonight the band returns, playing Thunderbird Café with Big Snow Big Thaw and Scott Simons (the L.A.-via-West Virginia piano-pop singer on locally based Rostrum Records). Mount Peru should make an ideal soundtrack for a chill Sunday night. AM 9 p.m. 4023 Butler St., Lawrenceville. $7. 412-682-0177 or www.thunderbirdcafe.net
[PUNK] + TUE., JUNE 21
Usually when rock critics latch onto a teen-age band it's because of the band's exuberance or naiveté (even if it's an angry naiveté). But Danish punks Iceage are the exception: The under-20 gang plays a brand of goth-inflected, shape-shifting art punk that's downright mature -- in a sinister way, of course. The band's first album, New Brigade, is officially released in America today on What's Your Rupture?, and the band happens to be in town tonight to play The Shop. With Kim Phuc, Slices. AM 8 p.m. 4314 Main St., Bloomfield. $7. All ages. 412-951-0622
