The music of Big Mean Sound Machine lives up to the name, with nine band members creating what they describe as “meditation meets party music.” It’s part Afrobeat and part experimental funk, with plenty of rhythm and a mean horn section. Joining the party at the Rex Theater is Connecticut funk band West End Bend, which has only a dismal eight members.
