Car chases, explosions and plot twists, plus a brain implant!

In Ariel Vromen’s action thriller, Kevin Costner stars as an ex-con whose brain is implanted with the memories of a dead CIA agent and tasked with averting a worldwide catastrophe. The plan hits a snag when he’s confronted with memories of the agent’s work — and family. The all-star lineup (Gary Oldman, Tommy Lee Jones and Ryan Reynolds) is the main draw here. Costner plays the rugged, but sometimes tender, character he’s honed over his career. There are the typical car chases, explosions and plot twists, but the film also hints at questions — though not necessarily novel — about human consciousness.
