You're so right that the absolute most interesting part of this issue is Dowd's persistence in standing alone. He for sure is not on the Peduto end of the table. But I think we twelve out here have jumped to the conclusion that that means he sits with Motznik/Payne. Patrick sits by himself. He's already pulled off some amazing gymnastics so as to carve out a third side on a few two-sided issues that really have no third side. Since the other two council factions have already staked out the "yes/no" territory, I guess Patrick will have to claim dibs on an "abstain" vote in order to continue to stand alone.

Bill will get support from the North Side, South Side etc because, as Councilman, he has always worked to solve problems in ALL the city districts, not just his own. He was worked this way from the very beginning, not just lately due to his mayoral aspirations. The new federally-mandated dye test requirements for the sale of properties is a case in point. (I am a Realtor) Homeowners in Brookline, Beechview, etc were going to suffer the hardest financial consequences of the ordinance PWSA put forward to Council. It was Bill who drafted and insisted on amendments that would soften the burden of those neighborhoods. NOT their own councilman, but Bill. In my book, he is the hands-down best choice for mayor.
