Pylon Pics: Football is family, even in 30-33 loss

Even in a tough loss for Pittsburgh Steelers fans, family is more important than football. Tonight marked the head-to-head matchups for two sets of brothers, T.J. & Derek Watt, as well as twins Maurkice and Mike Pouncey. Sure, the calls on the field were quite terrible and the local team lost 30-33 in the final seconds on the third attempt of a field goal. But seeing the smiles and love shared at the end of the game, makes you realize that family will be with you much longer than the game. And in the holiday season and the first night of Hanukkah, it seemed only fitting to be reminded of that.

The Steelers record is now 7-4-1 and will play at the Oakland Raiders on December 9th at 4:25pm.

Hours before Antonio Brown flew down the sideline, he was clocked going 100mph down McKnight Road in his Porsche. He and the entire Pittsburgh Steelers team never took their foot off of the pedal in their game against the Carolina Panthers. Tonight's game set the NFL record this season for most points scored and Pittsburgh did it at will. Five touchdowns for Ben Roethlisberger, all to different receivers, put him in sole possession of 7th place all-time with 350 touchdowns.

Pittsburgh improves to 6-2-1 and will travel next to Jacksonville to face the Jaguars on November 18th for a 1pm game.

"We need love, not hate. And we need that giant hug..."

Those were the words of Jeff Finkelstein, President/CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh during today's vigil at Soldiers & Sailors in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh. He spoke just after the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Cleveland Browns 33-18 at Heinz Field.

Sports offer us a healthy, temporary distraction from life during times like these. It’s not for everyone. We all have our own ways of dealing with obstacles in front of us, many of which are emotional in nature for many Pittsburghers right now. It can also be a platform for change like what we’ve seen in recent years with Colin Kaepernick, Eric Reid, and others. But it’s many things for many people. Today, myself and approximately 68,000 people used football to help heal.

Between the 80-plus degree weather and the Steelers offense, the Atlanta Falcons' defense got scorched today at Heinz Field. The Steelers ran up the score in the end, with a final of 41-17.

No one was more hyped to start this game against the Baltimore Ravens on national television than members of the Steelers defense, as seen in the opening image of T.J. Watt.

After a quick interception on a botched catch attempt by Vance McDonald, the Steelers couldn't stop their AFC North rivals from doing whatever they wanted on offense, whether it was running the ball through myriad missed tackles or beating rookie safety Terrell Edmunds with the deep ball. In the end, the Ravens took the win 26-14, at Heinz Field on Sun., Sept. 30.

But I always look for the silver lining in these games because the images are ultimately the most important part, regardless of who wins or loses. So, there was one small win today on a personal note, and that was moving around Heinz Field completely normal following knee surgery and in my fourth week of physical therapy. It’s the little wins, and this one was knowing I could keep up physically going up and down the field, kneeling with my camera on every play.

Next week, the Steelers face the also-struggling Atlanta Falcons at Heinz Field. City Paper will be here to see if the  can bounce back from this loss.

In the 2017 baseball offseason, the Pittsburgh Pirates traded away two star players in Andrew McCutchen and Gerrt Cole. The fans were upset with Pirates management and many Pittsburghers were gearing up for a disappointing season for the Buccos.

Then, for some, there was another reason this week to be upset with the Pirates. According to a tweet from Washington Post reporter James Hohmann, on March 8, Pirates president Frank Coonelly spoke in support of Pennsylvania state Rep. Rick Saccone (R-Elizabeth), who is running for U.S. Congress in a special election on March 13 against Conor Lamb (D-Mount Lebanon). According to Hohmann's tweet,  Coonelly spoke at the Republican Party of Allegheny County's "Spirit of Lincoln" dinner in Green Tree on March 8 and he also brought the Pirate Parrot with him. The dinner served as a fundraising event for Saccone and featured President Donald Trump’s counsel Kellyanne Conway.

Regis McDevitt, a Pittsburgh resident and Pirate fan, wrote on Twitter on March 8 “@Pirates this is shameful,” in response to Hohmann’s tweet. McDevitt also tweeted that the Pirates should address Coonelly’s involvement with Saccone and wrote that “inserting the organization into a political argument is true cause for a boycott.”

In October 2017, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster tweeted out a picture of his beloved bike and informed his followers that it had been stolen. Pittsburgh social media exploded with calls for the thief to return Smith-Schuster’s bike, with the hashtag #TeamFindJujusBike. Fellow Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown even offered free tickets to a Steelers home game in exchange for the bike.

Source: God is not a Pittsburgh sports fan; Pirates trade Andrew McCutchen to San Francisco Giants day after Steelers bounced from NFL playoffs

Apparently the Pittsburgh Pirates' plan for future success does not include keeping one of the franchise's greatest stars in black and gold.

Center fielder Andrew McCutchen was traded Monday afternoon to the San Francisco Giants. It wasn't immediately known what the Pirates got in return. However, speculation inside City Paper's newsroom is that the players the Pirates will receive come with both low salaries and low expectations.

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster wants his bike back

Posted By on Tue, Oct 24, 2017 at 4:56 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers' new star wide receiver, JuJu Smith-Schuster, is known for catching touchdowns and coming up with innovative celebrations, including a hide-and-seek number during the Steelers' win over the Bengals on Oct. 22. But Smith-Schuster is also known as the team's best bike commuter, as he often rides his bike to practice at the Steelers' training facility in the South Side. And in a town where city councilors might scream at you for riding your bike, that's an impressive feat.

However, Smith-Schuster tweeted today, Oct. 24, that his bike has been stolen. "I hope it's not an end of an era #TeamFindJujusBike," wrote Smith-Schuster on Twitter.
