Purvis, if you read, you would see that the reports often result in further harassment and bashing by the police. About half of the "hate crimes" that exist are committed by law enforcement- and those are the reported ones. Why would anyone trust them?
The state and police force is composed of racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic authoritarians. The idea that trusting them is going to help the queer community is ridiculous. Tansfolk are raped and killed by cops all the time and queers are bashed. The cops are often more dangerous than the bashers on the street because they have guns and practical legal immunity. The idea that any of these forces or those they are supposed to be accountable to are trustworthy is a joke- and it's very dangerous to tell people to trust them.
