This film is, actually, one of the most uncompromisingly racist bits of cinema I have ever seen. “Persia” is one giant ball of brown-skinned mysticism, idolatry, and sexual gluttony. The white Spartans fight with tooth, nail, and stubborn integrity; the Non-Whites fight dirty with spells, wild beasts, overdone makeup and slavery. I’m miffed by Mr. Kloman’s review: sure, the film was technically impressive, but its politics and propaganda made all the “art” pretty hard to stomach.
