A Gun Called Tension

A Gun Called Tension
Cold Crush

Synth beats, chunky guitar, freestyling emcees. If not for its status as something of a super-group, the newly formed A Gun Called Tension could be written off as not much more than yet another post-punk/dub project, albeit a fairly brilliant one at that. But consider the collaborators: Dann Gallucci of Modest Mouse and Murder City Devils. Sean Reveron, who previously worked with The Beta Band. And of course, the requisite hangers-on, including members of Roots Manuva and Pretty Girls Make Graves. But for all its rock-world guest-listers, AGCT is a genuine club record, with Gallucci's understated and ambient computer work providing the perfect backbeat for Reveron's deeply rich hip-hop vocal delivery. Unlike Ugly Casanova, however, the side project belonging to that other guy from Modest Mouse, AGCT probably shouldn't look forward to indie-world love anytime in the too-near future. But as for heavy rotation on the dance floor? Expect it, and soon.
