Ryan Deto, thank you for your articulate response.

I agree the Public should have access of Public places, such as Public Parks and the Courthouse. But if you wish to rent the area for your private event (Wedding in this case), you should have to pay a fee. And I agree that this should be an option, although renting out the Courthouse should be done at times when not in use by the General Public. Since most hearings are M-F during Daylight Hours, and most Weddings are done on a Saturday, there should have be problem.

Renting public space for private use is not uncommon. County and Local Parks to rent out Pavilions for special events. The areas are open to the public, but by renting them, you limit the public access, granting a small party for a fee. Heck, you can even close off street and have a Block Party. The street is Public Property paid for by "We the People...", but short term exclusive use for compensation still occurs.

Mr. Deto, I respectfully disagree with your position, but I appreciate you taking the time to write a response. Kudos to you!

Why is the CP vilifying Councilman Kress for wanting to do the same thing with Parks and Bridges that was done with Pittsburgh's Baseball and Football Stadiums? That on top of the rent out the County Courthouse bring revenue to the County without "flushing" County Taxpayers.

I stand with Councilman Kress on these issues. And so should you.

One of the biggest increases to expense has been the Port Authority's healthcare. Yet, contract renewal after contract renewal, we don't hear about pricing from any other Healthcare provider other than Highmark.

What if we could have the save level of coverage for Port Authority employees by switching to UPMC, Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare or any other Healthcare Provider and use the savings to restore the 5, 35, 42, 50 AND add service to already crowded routes?

The problem is, it is my understanding that Act 29 funds either is not or cannot be used for Transit Service by the Port Authority. It will be used for Equipment and Capital Purposes.

Other than the 55, which was re-introduced back to the system September 2013, there are not confirmed restoration of previous eliminated routes.

We should have someone from the Port Authority speak on this to verify.

Toomey was spot on. Government cannot spend our future into oblivion. When do we start spending LESS than we bring in, and using the surplus for debt? When is our "pay off" date?

I like the pay stations for Cash Pay-Per-Trip Customers. It is faster than someone paying with coins. But the old GFI fare boxes had a cup where you could just dump your coins and the machines, while older, still could process coins a lot faster. It's a shame they couldn't have been refurbished to take smart cars, just like the original 1980s Light Rail Vehicles were refurbished and are still in service today.

With that said, the old style paper/holographic passes were a lot faster, because you could just show it to the driver, bypassing those whose Smart Cards weren't working and "discussing" it with the Operator.

Keeping Fare Booths open is much faster because you can open all three or six doors for maximum efficiency! I wish the Port Authority could have EVERY fare booth staffed along the system during every special event that crush loads the Light Rail System.
