I am totally with Schaffer, and I feel so bad that that happened to him. I am outraged that he was cited, and the party people were let go!! My fiancee and I have lived in Oakland for at least 9 years now, and it has gotten so much worse. We went to college too, and understand that these kids want to party, but they get way out of hand. They have no respect for other people whatsoever. I could care less what people do behind closed doors, but when it affects other people, something needs to be done about it. We are so tired of the broken glass, garbage, flaming couches, vandalism, etc. We have had both of our vehicles dented, scratched, broken into, and the mirrors have been broken off so many times that I wont even fix them anymore. I do have to say that we have called 911 several times and they have responded in a reasonable amount of time. The bad thing is that if they don't catch someone doing something in the act, there is nothing they can do about it. We joined Oakland Community Council to try to make a difference. The city of Pittsburgh complains about hurting for money all of the time. They could help by citing and fining the landlords in Oakland! This actually WOULD make a difference because the landlords are not going to keep paying the city. They would threaten to evict the tennants that are causing all of the trouble. This one may be a long shot, but another way to control things could be to enforce parking in Oakland 24 hours a day. They could tow away a lot of cars that don't have parking passes. Ever been to Columbus Ohio? Why can this city be so clean, even around the campus area? What is wrong here? We have 1 more year of this mess and we are out of here. We are moving to the west coast, and we can't wait. Your Equally Frustrated Pals!!
