Re: “Withdrawn painting at arts festival spurs discussion of race and representation

I've known Mr. Megalis for many years and I'm more familiar with his video work than his painting work. His hyper concentration of the entire life of Tamir Rice into the visual depiction of his last moments is extremely brutal. I think if he as an artist was engaged in the Black community, had a history of working to dismantle white supremacy and social justice work, I think he might have painted this subject matter very differently. He has a right to paint anything he likes, of course, but he should recognize the fresh and painful wounds he's opening when he does work like this and be prepared to discuss it.

I think it's more telling that there were no jurors of color curating the event. I know the Arts Festival is working towards inclusion, I believe this is the first year they had a local hip hop showcase (I could be wrong on this, but I know they have a local showcase on June 8 and I don't recall seeing one in the past and I think that's definitely progress.) They just have further to go, and I think this piece and it's resultant controversy illuminates this truth.

Re: “Elimination of Pittsburgh advocacy group staffer’s job shocks arts community

With great respect for Tiffany's dedication and work, to suggest that the other employees of the Arts Council haven't been just as committed as she is to fighting for equity and justice in every aspect of their work is insulting. Having worked with multiple staffers over many years on a multitude of projects I can assure you that the incredible equity work that the Pittsburgh Arts Council has always done will absolutely continue as they endeavor to support ALL the artists who live and work in Pittsburgh and continue to get us opportunities and uplift the city as a whole by supporting its creative class.

Re: “A proposed highway cap won’t help the Lower Hill

How in the world did they get $19 million to build a giant concrete thing no one needs when human beings and small local businesses are being forced out of East Liberty and the Hill needs rebuilding?!? Connecting is all well and good, but how about emphasizing more PROTECTING our people?!?

Re: “Pittsburgh activists and officials call on lawmakers to pass gun-reform measures

So proud of Congressman Doyle and Mayor Peduto for taking a stand on this. We need to fix this problem with guns....Australia did, and we can too!!

Re: “Pittsburgh Filmmakers fires longtime director of exhibitions

Wow.... this is a shock for sure. All these gentlemen were extremely hard working a dedicated employees. As a student and member of Pgh Filmmakers, I got to see them at work. I am wildly disappointed in this decision to let them go. I can't imagine how the "right" people to step forward could be any better at keeping that incredible institution than they have already been doing. The restructuring is throwing out the baby with the silver chemical bath....getting rid of the people who helped make it the special place it is..... I am beyond disappointed. I was putting together my money to re-enact my membership dies.... this makes me doubt seriously whether I need to be a member of an organization of a group who doesn't value their greatest human resources.

Re: “Formula412 releases Reality Show

I really have a hard time believing this. *IF* anything like this actually went down, I'm sure there is more to the story, I think your slanderous use of public forums to spread libel and allege these things is hateful and if you were telling the truth you would not feel a need to say these things in this manner.
